General presentation

The conference on the "Impact of Plant Pathogens on the Quality of Crops and Wine (Patholux - Grapelux)" - Plant Pathology in Relation to Food Safety and Food Quality - will take place in Luxembourg on 22nd and 23rd October 2012, at the Domaine Thermal in Mondorf-les-Bains.

The objective of this 2-day conference is to foster a vivid discussion on our present knowledge of the impact of plant pathogens on food quality aspects, including wine. Topics will focus on the monitoring, controlling and detection of viruses, fungi and bacteria, and the impact of pathogens on quantitative and qualitative properties of crops and resulting food products. Molecular mechanisms and strategies to control the losses caused by viruses, fungi and bacteria will also be discussed. A specific focus will be given to grapevine diseases and their control.

To achieve this objective, the conference aims to stimulate discussions among various stakeholders in the area of agriculture and viticulture, and to uncover major gaps in our present understanding in the domain of crop pathogens and food quality. The programme will consist of keynote lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions.

We hope that the scientific programme will spark lively interaction on this interdisciplinary topic, whilst allowing you to enjoy the flair of the spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains and its surroundings.
